Welcome
Welcome to the home of the Richmond County Democratic Party.
Our major goals are to enhance public education, provide health benefits for the young and old. We believe in pro-choice for women, affirmative action, increased minimum wage, recognition of unions as an important aid to labor, campaign finance reform, a prescription drug plan for the elderly, and environmental protection. We oppose pre-emptive war but insist that our troops have proper armaments when they are placed in harms way. We oppose privatization of Social Security and we oppose a ban on gay marriage.
There are 80,000 registered voters in Richmond County incorporated in the 22nd and partly in the 23rd State Senatorial districts. We are also an important part of the 12th Congressional district. In the 2004 elections all Richmond County democratic candidates won election and re-election. Three Republican incumbents were defeated. The Richmond County voters gave John Barrow, the Democratic candidate for Congress, a whopping 12,000 vote majority which led to his victory over a Republican incumbent. Barrow was one of only two congressional candidates in the United States to accomplish this feat. Included in the victory were two state senators and four state house members. Again this was one of the few counties in the state that went clearly Democratic.
The Party meets on the second Wednesday of every month at its headquarters (call 706-722-8111) at 7:30PM. It also sponsors a breakfast the third Saturday of each month at 9:00AM (call 706-722-8111) for details.
